WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT DOING BUSINESS IN OHIO?
As a seventh generation family farm, we have deep roots in Ohio. Ohio is well suited for maple syrup production because of its location and weather and with all the local farmers markets, it is great for marketing syrup as well.
DESCRIPTION OF BUSINESS:
Goodell Family Farm traces its beginnings to 1825 when Jonas Goodell first purchased land in Shalersville, Ohio. Seven generations later, the Goodells are still farming the same land. Today the farm is managed by brothers Jay and Bruce Goodell and Jay’s son Nathan Goodell.
Our farm is now Certified Organic where we milk dairy cows as well as produce pure maple syrup. We milk about 90 cows that are rotationally grazed on our pastures. Our milk goes to Organic Valley, a farmer-owned cooperative, of which we are a member.
The maple sugarbush is a 100-acre woods with around 4800 taps. We use modern technology to collect and process maple sap into syrup. These including a vacuum tubing system for sap collection and a reverse osmosis for removing 80 percent of the water from sap before it is boiled in the evaporator for finishing.
For more than 30 years, we have offered a pancake breakfast for maple lovers featuring hot pancakes and sausage topped with our own pure maple syrup.
