WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT DOING BUSINESS IN OHIO?
I will clarify Ohio as Northwest Ohio. Northwest Ohio is a small midwest community with a big-city heart! We are creative, have a strong work ethic, driven to employ and support our own, not afraid to take risk, and as a community we are one big extended family!
DESCRIPTION OF BUSINESS:
Sam Okun Produce started in downtown Toledo in 1914 with a horse and buggy. We are now a proud fifth generation family-owned and operated company, with an Okun woman now at the helm! We maintain the original mission, values and priorities established by Sam Okun to provide our customers with the best quality produce, service second to none, at a competitive price. At the same time, we have matured into a woman owned company which is HACCP certified via a Third Party Audit with NSF, has an exclusive agreement with Sustainable Local Foods, LLC in Toledo to distribute hydroponically grown produce in our own community, and we continue to adjust to our changing industry.
We pride ourselves on multigenerational relationships with local farmers like Steve Sadowski, Norm Keil, Bergman Farms, the Bench Family, and Eshelman Fruit Farm to name a few. We have over 50 years teaming with Dole, T&A, Sunkist and Green Giant.
Ultimately we practice what we preach! We feel a responsibility to invest in our community through employment opportunities, charitable work, and providing a product and service to our neighbors. We strive to hold ourselves to the highest level of honesty, integrity and hard work.
