The John & Annie Glenn Historic Site

WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT DOING BUSINESS IN OHIO?

Being home to the first American to orbit Earth, the oldest person to fly in space and the only Ohioan to serve four terms in the U.S. Senate, it was important to create this Historic Site here in Ohio, in honor of Senator John H. Glenn, Jr. and his wife of 71 years, Annie.

DESCRIPTION OF BUSINESS:

At first, the humble Senator Glenn resisted the idea of having his house turned into a museum but after realizing that he and Annie had lived through nearly a third of American history, he agreed that it would be a great place to teach that time period. While touring the Historic Site, visitors are treated to a living history experience on the main floor of John Glenn's boyhood home. Costumed actors guide them through as though it were either 1937, "The Life of an American family during the Great Depression" (John was age 16) or 1944, "Life on the Home Front during WWII" (John was serving in the Pacific). For older folks, this is a nostalgic trip back in time but for the younger ones, it's a great opportunity to step back to a time they've only heard about, helping begin conversations between generations. You'll also see John's bedroom which looks like it did when he was growing up in the house, a toyroom with some of his very own childhood treasures and lots of memorabilia from his military and space careers.
