WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT DOING BUSINESS IN OHIO?

The residents of Ohio are what make this such a great state! Ohio is the gateway to the Midwest and that hardworking ethic and friendly attitude so characteristic of Midwesterners is abundant here.

DESCRIPTION OF BUSINESS:

Great Lakes Science Center, home of the NASA Glenn Visitor Center, makes science, technology, engineering and math come alive for more than 300,000 visitors a year through hundreds of hands-on exhibits, temporary exhibitions, the Cleveland Clinic DOME Theater, Steamship William G. Mather, daily science demonstrations, seasonal camps, and more. The Science Center is funded in part by the citizens of Cuyahoga County through Cuyahoga Arts and Culture.

Workforce development that begins post-college or even in high school is a late start. Longitudinal studies of interest development and career persistence shows that a child who is interested in a STEMM career by middle school is significantly more likely than her or his peers to successfully achieve a STEMM career. Interest by middle school outweighs many other predictive factors including household income, parental careers, AP test scores, and more. Great Lakes Science Center takes up that call to action and integrates STEMM career awareness into programs, exhibits, and films throughout our work in the community. They are also taking a leadership role in workforce development by connecting best practices in education and the needs of our local STEMM employers. Local corporations with hundreds of jobs unfilled, say that what they need are people who can work with ill-defined problems; people with problem identification and formation skills. Great Lakes Science Center has shifted their programs and exhibits to encourage students, families and adults to build those critical analysis, creativity and problem identification skills.
