4 Paws for Ability, Inc.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT DOING BUSINESS IN OHIO?

Ohio is a perfect location. Clients come from all over the US for a 12-day training class. Most East Coast and Midwest clients drive. For those flying, we are close to the Dayton International Airport, which is within 90 minutes by air to 55 percent of the US population.

DESCRIPTION OF BUSINESS:

With over 1000 placements, 4 Paws for Ability takes the “dis” out of disability. Their dedicated team of staff and volunteers work each day to save lives. From alerting to a child’s abnormal blood sugar levels to being a personal search and rescue dog for an autistic child who runs off, they understand how precious time is for their families of children with life-threatening disabilities. The demand for their service dogs is greater than ever. The key factor is the rate of children born on the autism spectrum: from 1 to 150 in 2007 to 1 in 50 children today. 4 Paws was the first organization in the United States to place skilled Autism Assistance Dogs. 4 Paws has no age or geographic restrictions, nor do they limit placements to certain types of disabilities. A child can be any age, live anywhere around the world, and have multiple disabilities. They are often a family’s only hope in providing a service dog for a child in need.

The types of dogs they train for children are Hearing Ear, Mobility Assistance, Autism Assistance, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder/Drug Exposed Assistance, Seizure Alert and Response, Diabetic Alert and Response, and Facilitated Guide Dog.
