SHC/The Arc of Medina County

WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT DOING BUSINESS IN OHIO?

Ohio communities are committed to providing support to those in need. Here in Ohio, neighbors care about neighbors. As a nonprofit that helps those with developmental disabilities it is reassuring to be doing business in a state where its communities care enough to make a difference in the lives of many.

DESCRIPTION OF BUSINESS:

SHC/The Arc of Medina County, founded in 1953, is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that partners with individuals with disabilities and their families to provide a full range of services to assist them in living a quality life in their chosen community. It is the goal of the agency to provide opportunities for full inclusion for individuals with disabilities, to be active advocates, to be innovative in the field of developmental disabilities and to address the gaps in services in our communities.

SHC started because parents of children with disabilities wanted their children to be a part of the community. Options were limited for these families and most were told to send their children to state institutions. These Medina County families pooled their resources and stood strong together for their children. They reached out to their generous neighbors and community supporters for help. SHC was born, and today, 61 years later, the nonprofit remains a forefront leader in the community helping provide care, training and adult education, supported employment, housing, and recreation to both children and adults with developmental disabilities.
