Secretary Husted Announces Meeting of the Ohio Board of Voting Machine Examiners

COLUMBUS – Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted today announced a meeting of the Ohio Board of Voting Machine Examiners on Friday, August 19, 2016 at 10:00am. The meeting will be held in the Elections Division of the Secretary of State's Office on the 15th floor of the Continental Plaza Building at 180 East Broad Street, Columbus, Ohio 43215.

The agenda includes:

  • Review of the application for certification of the Unity 3.4.1.4 Voting System, a series of modifications to the Unity 3.4.1.0 Voting System (submitted by Election Systems & Software [ES&S]), and examination of the voting system for certification and approval for use in Ohio elections.
  • Re-Examination of the Unity 3.2.1.0 Voting System (submitted by Election Systems & Software [ES&S]), which originally was certified in 2011, for continued certification and approval for use in Ohio elections.
  • Review of the application for certification of the ExpressPoll Tablet EZRoster Version 3.3.1.0 electronic pollbook (submitted by Election Systems & Software [ES&S]) and examination of the pollbook for certification and approval for use in Ohio elections.
  • Review of enhancements or modifications to the VoteSafe electronic pollbook (submitted by Votec) for approval for use in Ohio elections.
  • Review and possible approval of two matrixes/matrices – one with testing standards for a remote ballot marking device and one with testing standards for a precinct-based ballot marking device – to be used in the examination and certification of ballot marking devices for use in Ohio elections.

This meeting of the board, which certifies voting equipment for use in Ohio, is open to the public.

Board Members:  Jeffrey A. Matthews (Chair; Director, Stark County Bd. of Elections), Joyce Kale-Pesta (Director, Mahoning County Bd. of Elections), William Anthony, Jr. (Director, Franklin County Bd. of Elections), and Shawn Stevens (Member, Delaware County Bd. of Elections).
