COLUMBUS – Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted visited West Muskingum High School to honor the district’s recent commitment to eliminate pay-to-participate fees for extracurricular activities.

Last month the West Muskingum Local School Board voted unanimously to eliminate pay-to-participate fees at both the high school and middle school. Prior to this decision, fees totaled $250 per high school sport and $100 per middle school sport.

Secretary Husted has been an advocate of removing pay-to-participate fees statewide.

Research shows that participation in extracurricular activities encourages the development of skills needed in order to be successful in life and that pay-to-participate fees create a financial barrier for poor and middle-class children.
