Statement From Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

COLUMBUS – Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted released the following statement today in response to today’s Ohio House Government Accountability and Oversight Committee vote on Senate Bill 63, legislation the Secretary has sought for more than five years, in order to authorize the implementation of an online voter registration system in Ohio. The following may be attributed directly to Secretary Husted:

“I thank the members of the committee and leaders of the Ohio House for their support of legislation to allow for online voter registration in Ohio.

“This is another step in striking the balance of making it easy to vote and hard to cheat in Ohio.

“Giving Ohioans the ability to register to vote online is long overdue and will benefit both voters and taxpayers alike by making the process more convenient, more secure and cheaper.

“I encourage lawmakers to approve this legislation quickly; there is no reason to keep the voters of Ohio waiting any longer to enjoy the convenience and security of online registration.”
