Ohio Secretary of State to Headline Three Open-Media Events in Zanesville Area Tuesday

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

COLUMBUS – Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted will travel to New Philadelphia and Zanesville tomorrow for three media events including a stop on the Secretary’s GradsVote Program at the Buckeye Career Center to encourage students to register to vote and participate in democracy. The Secretary will also serve as the keynote speaker at the Zanesville Rotary Club, and stop at the West Muskingum High School to honor the district’s recent commitment to eliminate pay-to-participate fees for extracurricular activities.

  • BUCKEYE CAREER CENTER: Secretary Husted will speak to approximately 715 students at the Buckeye Career Center as part of his GradsVote initiative. The GradsVote program provides high school students with the information they need to become active and engaged Ohio voters.

  • ZANESVILLE ROTARY: Secretary Husted will recognize the Zanesville Rotary Club Phoenix Awards recipients. Phoenix awards are given to students who have overcome obstacles to achieve educational and personal success.

  • ENDING PAY-TO-PARTICIPATE: Secretary Husted will visit West Muskingum High School to commend the district’s decision to eliminate pay-t0-participate fees for extracurricular activities. The Secretary has been an advocate of removing pay-to-participate fees statewide. 

Research shows that participation in extracurricular activities encourages the development of skills needed in order to be successful in life and that pay-to-participate fees create a financial barrier for poor and middle-class children.
