Election Advisory From Secretary of State Husted

More than 480,000 absentee ballots requested in 2015 General Election, of which more than 380,000 have been cast.
Today is Election Day and polls are open until 7:30 pm.

COLUMBUS – As voters head to the polls today, Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted announced that 483,953 absentee ballots were requested in the 2015 General Election. To date, 383,375 absentee ballots have been cast by mail and in person, and 100,578 absentee ballots remain outstanding.

Based on an informal survey of Ohio’s 88 county boards of election, as November 2, 2015:

  • 483,953 – Number of absentee ballot applications received.
  • 383,375 – Number of absentee ballots cast.
    • 246,382 – Absentee ballots cast by mail.
    • 136,993 – Absentee ballots cast in person.
  • 100,578 – Number of outstanding absentee ballots.

Reminders for Voters

Polls open until 7:30 pm TONIGHT: Voters choosing to head to the polls today need to bring the proper form of ID and know their polling place and precinct. Voters can check their polling place and precinct and get other important voting information by visiting

Still time to drop off absentee ballots: Voters who requested and received an absentee ballot by mail must complete, sign and seal their voted ballots, and include proper identification. Voted ballots can be delivered in person to boards of elections through the close of the polls TODAY. They may not be returned at polling locations.

What’s on the ballot: In today’s election, Ohio voters will decide three statewide issues and more than 1,700 local issues. 

Get your virtual voting sticker: Ohio voters are encouraged to link with “OhioSOSHusted” on Facebook and Twitter to get elections information and updates throughout the year.  Here they can also get a virtual voting sticker badge to let their friends and followers know they’ve participated in the election, whether they chose to cast their ballots by mail or in person. 

Election Night Results

As a reminder, following the close of the polls at 7:30 pm tonight, unofficial election results will be available through the Secretary of State’s website at Results will only be provided for the three statewide issues appearing on the ballot.
