COLUMBUS – Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted last evening, Sunday, September 27, 2015, presented a medallion honoring Former Ohio Congressman Delbert “Del” Latta for his courageous support of the Federal Voting Rights Act of 1965. The landmark legislation served as the flagship reform in the effort toward ensuring access to the ballot box for every American citizen.

“Del Latta is a living part of an important period in our history,” Secretary Husted said. “The Voting Rights Act ensures that every eligible voter has unfettered access to the ballot box and reaffirms one of America’s founding principles in stating that every person’s voice matters. Many have dedicated their lives to earning and preserving the right to vote for every citizen and that responsibility now belongs to us to make sure their work was not in vein.”

The medallion, sponsored by Secretary Husted and the National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS), was accepted by Congressman Bob Latta on his father’s behalf. The elder Congressman Latta is the last living Member of Congress from Ohio’s delegation to have cast a vote on the legislation.
