Ohio Supreme Court Upholds Husted Rulings In Bernabei, Cicchinelli

COLUMBUS – The Supreme Court of the State of Ohio today unanimously upheld rulings made by Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted in the candidacies of Thomas Bernabei and Francis Cicchinelli, candidates for Mayor of the Cities of Canton and Massillon, respectively. The following may be attributed to Secretary Husted:

“Today, the Supreme Court unanimously confirmed my decision to grant ballot access to independent mayoral candidates in Canton and Massillon, Ohio. State law requires candidates to make a good faith effort to disaffiliate from a political party before running for office as an independent. I saw no evidence that Mr. Bernabei and Mr. Cicchinelli failed to make that good faith effort, which is why I broke the tie vote for them to be on the ballot as candidates.

“It is a good day for voters because they now have a choice and a chance discuss the issues that will shape the future of their community.
