Statement from Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted

For Immediate Release

COLUMBUS – This week The PEW Charitable Trust published a report, available here, that found nearly half of all eligible voters nationwide can now register to vote online. Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted, a longtime advocate for online voter registration, continues to make the case and urge passage of this reform. All of the following may be attributed to him:

“Today, more than half of all eligible voters in the country are able to register to vote online, while Ohioans still wait for legislative action on this issue.

“Ohio has been recognized as a leader nationally in elections administration for our continued efforts to modernize and commitment to ensuring it is easy to vote and hard to cheat, but that status is in jeopardy with each day that passes without having online voter registration in place.

“Online voter registration is more convenient, secure and accurate than traditional paper forms, and will also save taxpayer dollars.

“Ohio is long overdue in implementing this reform and the time for the legislature to act is now.”
