Middle school students in Hamilton County and elementary school student from Jackson County chosen as winners.
COLUMBUS – Secretary of State Jon Husted today announced the winners of a statewide contest for Ohio’s youth to design a poster and video that will be used as part of a public service announcement campaign to remind Ohioans about the importance of voting. Secretary Husted made the announcement during a visit today at Lockland Middle where students who submitted the winning video attend school.
“This contest has served as a great way to both engage and educate the next generation of voters in our state,” Secretary Husted said. “The winning submissions will be used to remind current voters that voting is not only an important right, but also important responsibility.”
The winning video was made by Costantino Costanzo, Chris Davenport, Briell Denny, Cody Eddelmon, Alexis Ferrell, Erin Goins, Fatimata Harouna, Jacob Harper, Alex Hicks, Alicia Kite, Nate Leigh, Hailey Mercurio, Diamond Smith, Tyasia Spikes, Kyler Rowe and Janyia Wilcher, a group of sixth graders from Lockland Middle School in Lockland, Ohio.
The winning poster design was done by fifth grader Dillon Osborne from Southview Elementary School in Jackson, Ohio.
Overall, more than 100 poster and video entries were submitted from across the state. The video and poster selected will be distributed for statewide use through a variety of channels, including providing copies to all 88 county boards of elections, featuring prominently in the Secretary of State’s social media outreach efforts and sharing the video with all Ohio television stations for use.
