Secretary of State Husted Announces Process for Hearing Statewide Candidate Protests

COLUMBUS – Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted today announced the process for hearing three protests filed against two candidates for statewide office in the May 2014 Primary Election.

Secretary Husted has set a public hearing for 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. on Monday, March 3, 2014. The hearing will take place at the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) hearing room 11-B, located at 180 East Broad Street, 11th floor, Columbus, Ohio 43215.

Capital University law professor and former Federal Elections Commission member Brad Smith will serve as the hearing officer. Mr. Smith will be responsible for compiling a report with recommendations for Secretary Husted concerning the protests filed.

Candidate protests are governed by Ohio Revised Code 3501.39 and 3513.05.

What:              Public Hearing on Libertarian Attorney General Candidate Protest
When:             1:00 p.m., or a half hour after the 9:00 a.m. hearing, whichever is later
