Pending Statewide Ballot Issues for the 2008 General Election*

*Petitioners for proposed statewide issues (initiatives and referenda) must file their petitions for and signatures upon those petitions with the Secretary of State's office. The Secretary's office and boards of elections work together to check those signatures and petitions to ensure that a sufficient amount of valid signatures have been submitted. If a proposed statewide issue has a sufficient amount of valid signatures, it will qualify for placement on the November 4, 2008 general election ballot. Absent a successful protest, challenge, or other action prescribed by law, initiatives and referenda petitions that contain a valid number of signatures will be placed on the ballot to be voted upon by the electorate.

The part-petitions for Issues 4, 5 and 6 were timely filed with the Secretary of State's Office. The petitioners' committee for Issue 4 withdrew their petitions. As a result, the issue (Initiated legislation requiring paid sick leave for employees in Ohio) will not be placed on November 4, 2008 general election ballot. . Issue 5 has been certified for placement on the November 4, 2008 general election ballot. Also, Issue 6 has been certified to be placed on the November 4, 2008 general election ballot.
