Secretary of State Husted Announces Poll Worker Training And Development Funding
Release of funds part of ongoing preparations for the 2012 Presidential Election
COLUMBUS – As part of an ongoing effort to ensure the proper safeguards are in place for Election Day and it is a positive experience for voters, Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted today announced that $760,000 in poll worker training funds will be distributed among Ohio’s 88 counties.
“Equally as important to making sure Ohio has enough poll workers, is providing the proper training to ensure these individuals are well prepared to administer elections and guard against fraud on Election Day,” Secretary Husted said.
This month the Secretary of State’s office will distribute poll worker training funds to all 88 counties, totaling $760,000 statewide. Each county will receive an amount based on the number of registered voters in that county. This funding will provide for the mandatory training each poll worker is required to complete under state law.
“Just as many Ohioans are dealing with tighter budgets, many county boards of elections are faced with the same situation,” Secretary Husted noted. “These funds will allow counties to stretch their dollars a little further, which is important as we head into a presidential election.”
In addition to the poll worker training funds being released, the Secretary of State’s office has also launched PEOinOhio.com. This comprehensive website provides online training tools and resources for county boards of elections and poll workers alike, as well as an online sign-up for Ohioans to become poll workers. To date, more than 515 people have signed up through the Secretary of State’s office.
