SECRETARY OF STATE HUSTED ADMINISTERS OATH OF OFFICE TO NEW BOARDS OF ELECTIONS MEMBERS DURING STATEHOUSE CEREMONY
COLUMBUS – Secretary of State Jon Husted today administered the oath of office to nearly 60 new county boards of elections members during a ceremony at the Ohio Statehouse.
“Serving on a board of elections is both an honor and responsibility,” Secretary Husted said. “I thank each board member for their willingness to serve their communities and encourage them to be diligent in their duties to ensure access for all eligible voters and accuracy in the outcome of elections in Ohio.”
Members of boards of elections are appointed to four-year terms. Every two years the Secretary of State must confirm the appointment of two members to each board in all 88 counties, one Democrat and one Republican. The new board members being sworn in today are part of the 176 newly appointed or reappointed board members who take office on March 1, 2012.
State law requires bipartisan representation on each of Ohio’s 88 county boards of elections. Each board is made up of two Republican members and two Democratic members, all of whom must be qualified electors in the counties for which they serve. The Secretary of State makes appointments to boards of elections based on the recommendations of the executive committees of the respective county political parties.
