Secretary of State to Visit Central Ohio High School

Secretary of State Husted: Proposed Referendum on House Bill 194 Requires Additional Signatures
Secretary of State Jon Husted today certified that petitioners seeking a referendum on House Bill 194 have collected 221,572 valid signatures statewide, falling to meet the necessary requirements to place the issue on the 2012 November ballot. Petitioners submitted 333,063 total signatures and needed 231,150 valid signatures, or six percent of the total vote cast for Governor in 2010.

Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted Announces Grant for Military and Overseas Voting Systems
Secretary of State Jon Husted today announced that Ohio was one of the first seven recipients of an Electronic Absentee Systems for Elections (EASE) grant made available by the Federal Voting Assistance Program (FVAP). The $1,856,000 grant will enable Ohio military and overseas voters to better utilize technology to streamline the absentee voting process, from registering to vote, requesting an absentee ballot, marking the ballot electronically and processing the printed ballots that will be returned to local boards of elections.

Secretary of State Husted Announces Most Populous Counties for New Congressional Districts
To file as a candidate for Congress, individuals must collect signatures from registered voters living in the district they wish to represent. The information being released today will offer guidance for those individuals running for Congress in 2012 by providing information that will help to avoid confusion when collecting signatures to file as a candidate.

Secretary of State Husted Receives Petitions for Referendum on House Bill 194
Earlier this afternoon, petitioners seeking a referendum on House Bill 194 filed more than 318,000 signatures with Secretary of State Jon Husted’s office. The Secretary of State’s office must now determine if petitioners have gathered the required number of valid signatures – 231,147 or six percent of the total vote cast for Governor in 2010.

Statement by Secretary of State Husted Regarding Uniformity of Voter Outreach by Boards of Elections
The following may be attributed in whole, or in part, to Secretary of State Jon Husted regarding today’s issuance of a directive establishing uniform statewide standards for boards of elections regarding unsolicited mailings. This directive is consistent with the position held by former Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner in her June 2009 decision regarding a tie vote in Franklin County.

Secretary of State Husted Announces New Business Filings for July
Secretary of State Jon Husted today announced that 5,273 new entities filed to do business in Ohio in July. The numbers are up slightly from July of 2010, in which 4,824 new entities filed with the Secretary of State. So far in 2011 (January-July), the Secretary of State’s office has assisted with 49,716 new business filings. This is an increase from last year’s 41,891 new business filings during the same time period.

Secretary of State Jon Husted today certified that petitioners seeking a referendum on Senate Bill 5 have collected 915,456 valid signatures, meeting the necessary requirements to place the issue on the 2011 November ballot. Petitioners needed 231,147 signatures or six percent of the total vote cast for Governor in 2010.

Secretary of State Husted Statement on Changes to Recently Passed Elections Reform Legislation
The following may be attributed in whole, or in part, to Secretary of State Jon Husted regarding the Senate State and Local Government and Veterans Affairs Committee’s amendments to House Bill 224, a bill to help overseas military personnel more easily participate in Ohio elections, that repeals sections of the recently passed elections reform law, including a provision which would allow for online voter registration. The General Assembly is expected to vote on the amended bill later today.

Secretary of State Husted Receives Petitions for Ohio Health Care Freedom Amendment
Earlier today, petitioners seeking to place a constitutional amendment on the November ballot related to the federal healthcare reform legislation filed more than 546,000 signatures with Secretary of State Jon Husted’s office. The Secretary of State’s office must now determine if petitioners have gathered the required number of valid signatures – 385,245 or 10 percent of the total vote cast for Governor in 2010. This process must be completed no later than 105 days prior to the General Election, which is July 26, 2011.

Secretary of State Husted Releases New Business Filings for May
Secretary of State Jon Husted today announced that 7,440 new entities filed to do business in Ohio in May. This number is up from May of 2010, in which 6,682 new entities filed with the Secretary of State. So far in 2011 (January, February, March, April and May), the Secretary of State’s office has assisted with 37,612 new business filings. This is also an increase from last year’s 34,632 new business filings during the same time period.

Secretary of State Releases New Business Filings for April
In the month of April, 7,737 new entities filed to do business in Ohio, according to data released today by Secretary of State Jon Husted. The numbers are up slightly from April of 2010, in which 7,258 new entities filed with the Secretary of State. So far in 2011 (January, February, March and April), the Secretary of State’s office has assisted with 30,172 new business filings. This is also an increase from last year’s 27,950 new business filings during the same time period.
