Secretary Husted Appoints Halle Pelger as His Assistant Secretary of State and Chief of Staff
COLUMBUS – Secretary of State Jon Husted today announced that he is promoting Deputy Chief of Staff Halle Pelger to serve as both his Assistant Secretary of State and Chief of Staff. In her new duties, Pelger will oversee day-to-day operations and a staff of approximately 150. She will also serve in the Secretary’s stead in case of his absence.
“From running a smooth 2012 Presidential Election to rolling out the red carpet for new Ohio businesses, Halle has been instrumental to all the success we have enjoyed over the first two years in the Secretary of State’s office,” Secretary Husted said. “She is a trusted advisor with great personal and professional integrity – the best person to lead my team moving forward.”
Pelger began her public service career as a communications intern in then-Speaker Husted’s office and within six months, was promoted to serve as his legislative aide and liaison to the constituents of the 37th Ohio House District. Later, she would broaden her role, serving as Executive Assistant for both the Speaker and the Chief of Staff. After taking a leave of absence to consult on the Ohio House Republican campaigns in 2008, she became the Executive Assistant to the Chairman of the Ohio Republican Party. In the 2010 election cycle, she served as the Deputy Campaign Manager in Husted’s successful bid for Secretary of State. Pelger has served in the Secretary of State’s office as Deputy Chief of Staff since January 2011.
Pelger will succeed Assistant Secretary of State/Chief of Staff Scott Borgemenke, who recently accepted a position as Senior Vice President of Advocacy at the Ohio Hospital Association.
A native of Canton, Ohio, Pelger graduated Magna Cum Laude from Miami University with a degree in Political Science and a Minor in Economics. Pelger lives in Dublin.
