COLUMBUS – Secretary of State Jon Husted today announced that the former director of the Ohio Department of Job & Family Services Douglas E. Lumpkin will be joining the Secretary of State’s office as chief operating officer.

“Doug Lumpkin is one of the best managers in state government and we are honored to welcome him to the Secretary of State’s office,” Husted said.

For the last two years, Lumpkin served as director of the Ohio Department of Job & Family Services, the state’s largest agency with a more than $21 billion annual budget and nearly 3,700 employees. Prior to that, he served four years as director of the Franklin County Department of Job & Family Services, where he led a reorganization to improve staff development and customer service to best facilitate state assistance to families most in need.

Lumpkin’s prior state government service includes two years as chief operating and information officer for the Ohio Auditor of State, 20 years in the Ohio Attorney General’s Office, where he served as chief of administration  and later, director of administration. He also previously served in both the corporations (now business services) and administration divisions of the Secretary of State’s office.

As Chief Operating Officer to Secretary of State Husted, Lumpkin will assist in managing all internal operations for the office. He will start work at the Secretary of State’s office in February.

“It gives me great peace of mind to know that internal office functions will be in Doug’s able hands as I focus my attentions on leading a smooth elections process and ensuring that existing and future employers have a good, hassle-free interaction with the state of Ohio through our business services division.”

Lumpkin is a graduate of Wittenberg University.   He grew up in Columbus’ South Linden neighborhood, where he learned the value of public service at the feet of his father, Clarence Lumpkin, known to the neighborhood as “the mayor of Linden.”
