On July 26, 1990 the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was enacted. The Act provides standards to ensure that each polling location is handicapped accessible so those voters with disabilities are able to participate in the elections process just as easily as those voters without disabilities.
To further ensure voter access, the Help America Vote Act (HAVA) was signed into law in October of 2002. This piece of legislation provides funding to train Precinct Elections Officials on ADA compliance and to make polling locations handicapped accessible.
Below you will find links to help your county apply for funding that has been awarded to the Secretary of State's office from the U. S. Department of Health and Human Services through the Help America Vote Act.
