Originally published in 1990 under the title of "Ohio Citizen's Digest" and later "Ohio Defined," Profile Ohio was first produced in 2007, with updates in 2008 and 2009. In 2008, Profile Ohio received a Bronze Quill Award of Merit from the International Association of Business Communicators. Additionally, the American Library Association named Profile Ohio among its "Best Notable Government Documents" for 2008.
