Description of business: Sandy Milligan became involved with Milligan Workshops while she worked as a Customer Service Supervisor at Friendly's Restaurant chain during the fall of 1986. Her boyfriend and future husband, Brent Milligan, and his father, Norm had accepted a salvage job from Marathon Special Products, a local manufacturer. Working part-time, she helped them complete the initial job.
Soon the Milligans acquired more jobs and that lead to the creation of Milligan Workshops, Inc. Sandy began to work with them full-time as a Production Manager in 1988. Sandy and Brent purchased the company from Norm in 1992 upon his retirement. Sadly, Brent passed away after a fight with cancer in 1999, leaving Sandy to run the company. This was a difficult time for her and she considered selling the company. However, she decided to make it work, took matters into her own hands, assumed the position of President, and led the company on a path of success and growth.
Before she assumed her role as President, there was a time when Sandy was told that she, "couldn't do it". However, Sandy utilized other's doubt as a motivational factor to her success. Today, Sandy is the Facility Manager and President of Milligan Workshops, Inc. and is responsible for all aspects of running the business. She is involved in the Bowling Green community, actively participating in a business networking group, sits on the Leadership Board of The American Cancer Society, is a trustee of the Bowling Green Community Development Foundation and holds the Secretary seat on the Executive Board of the Bowling Green Chamber of Commerce. In addition, she serves on the Leadership Council of the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), was appointed to the Bowling Green Zoning Board of Appeals and her business is certified by the Women's Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC). She enjoys cooking, travel and running.
