Description of business: Spangler Candy Company is a privately held candy manufacturer headquartered in Bryan, Ohio, a town of about 10,000 in northwest Ohio. Spangler Candy Company began in 1906, when Arthur G. Spangler purchased the Gold Leaf Baking Company of Defiance, Ohio for $450. He renamed it Spangler Manufacturing Company and moved it to Bryan, Ohio where they produced baking soda, baking powder, starches, spices, and flavorings. By 1920, all products manufactured were candy and the name was changed to Spangler Candy Company. Our products now include lollipops, candy canes, and marshmallow circus peanuts. Our familiar brand names are Dum Dums®, Saf-T-Pops®, Spangler® Candy Canes, and Spangler® Circus Peanuts. Dum Dums, our flagship brand, was invented in 1924, and acquired from Akron Candy Company in Bellevue, Ohio in 1953. Today, 10 million Dum Dums are manufactured each day. Spangler also produces 2.7 million Candy Canes and over 500,000 Saf-T-Pops per day. Spangler Candy Company comprises a modern manufacturing facility of over 500,000 square feet, employs approximately 400 associates, and is proud to call Ohio home. Company Statistics |
