What do you like about doing business in Ohio?Ohio (Holmes County) is where I was born and raised and where my heritage stems from. I feel Holmes County is one of the most beautiful locations in Ohio where you see the rolling hills and beautiful landscapes. Ohio offers travelers unique cultural experiences, water sports, a plethora of locally owned attractions, restaurants, shops, museums, historical markers, scenic by-ways and easy access from the Interstates both east and west and north and south. Ohio is where I choose to live and conduct business. I want to share where I live with others. There have been visitors that I personally have done tours with who literally have moved here from another state.
Description of business: Amish Heartland Tours began in 1992 when driving Amish people to work in the morning. I began to realize what a unique culture they have as well as learning more about the beauty of our area. Knowing Holmes County attracts 4 million visitors a year, I wanted to give an opportunity to visitors to experience the way of life and enjoy the beauty, so I bought a small tour bus and started offering a back road tour.
In the past 20 years, our tour packages have increased from a 2 hour tour to 12 hour progressive meal tours, including partnering with other local businesses such as Yoders Amish Farm for buggy rides, The Amish and Mennonite Heritage Center to see the historical mural, Behalt, and many local Amish homes who cook for the visitor.
AHT has also been featured in USA Today in April 2005, on the cover of the Ohio Magazine, Cleveland Plain Dealer, and have been consultants to The History Channel, National Geographic, Disney Pixar, and well as many travel writers. We have also donated tours to The Make A Wish foundation and other Ohio based fund raisers and the Autism Foundation.
