What do you like about doing business in Ohio?
Two primary factors for any business to succeed are - attractive location and a steady, educated workforce. Ohio has both and has helped Gardner Pie grow into a successful business. Our average employee tenure is 10.5 years, with over 70 employed from the great state of Ohio! Being centrally located near the freshest of ingredients has helped solidify our pies as being #1 in quality.
Description of business:
Gardner Pie Company was started in Barberton, OH in 1945 by Ross and Dolores Gardner, who provided great tasting pies to local factories and eateries. The Gardner team would bake high quality pies and deliver to customers within a 100 mile radius.
As times changed, so too did Gardner Pie. Local factories began hiring vending companies to provide goods and services to their employees. Recognizing this trend, the Gardner family, now in its 2nd generation of family ownership, began making frozen, ready to bake pies for both the retail and foodservice segments.
To keep up with demand, in 2001 Gardner built and moved into a 45,000 sq. foot - state of the art - building at 191 Logan Parkway, in Akron, OH. Today as Gardner transitions to the 3rd generation of family leadership, it offers over 65 different flavors of gourmet pies. All produced in a Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) approved, SQF Level III plant with over 7 million pies sold in 2010!
In keeping with our heritage of supplying pies to the local community, this facility also has one of Portage Lakes best kept secrets - "The Gardner Pie Outlet Store." The outlet is managed by Ross & Dolores' granddaughter, Alyssa Johnson.
