The Ohio Arts Council, City of Cincinnati, and numerous Ohio-based foundations and corporations support ArtWorks, allowing us to collaborate with a diverse mix of people—from our business and community partners to the youth and professional artists we employ—to transform Greater Cincinnati.
Description of business: ArtWorks is an award-winning, not-for-profit organization that employs and trains local youth and talent to create art and community impact. ArtWorks’ Public Art program creates innovative works that enrich Greater Cincinnati while providing job opportunities to local youth and artists; ArtWorks has employed over 2,500 youth apprentices and 650 professional artists to create 67 murals.
ArtWorks’ ArtRx program transforms the lives of patients and families through the healing power of art. In two years alone, ArtWorks created over 300 works of art with over 1,400 patients, families and medical staff in partnership with Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center and Kolar Design. Hero Design Company, an ArtRx project started in 2012, empowers kids facing emotional, physical and medical hardship through the creation of custom superhero capes, and has hand-delivered 196 capes to date.
Through its Creative Enterprise program, ArtWorks trains and promotes creative entrepreneurs through the SpringBoard business development course. Since 2011, ArtWorks has graduated 153 creative entrepreneurs and helped launch 24 businesses and non-profits. ArtWorks is generously funded by many community supporters including the City of Cincinnati, the Carol Ann and Ralph V. Haile, Jr./US Bank Foundation, ArtsWave, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Ohio Arts Council.
